Media Statement: The Ohio Organizing Collaborative firmly rejects coordinated conservative attacks on our freedom to vote

May 28, 2021

“Most Ohioans believe that a democracy that works for us must include all of us. No matter our differences, voting is a fundamental right that belongs to each and every single American. But certain Republicans are blatantly trying to take away our freedom to vote, because they know they’ve failed to take care of all our communities. They want to silence our voices - especially Black, young, and new Americans - because they don’t want us to build a better and more equal future that does not privilege the wealthy few.

Ohioans want a government where we pick our leaders, not corrupt politicians who want to preserve power by rigging our maps and putting up barriers to voting. We are joining together across race, party, and zip code to protect our freedom to vote. Together, we will make sure that our leaders deliver the affordable care, quality jobs, and healthier future that Ohioans favor and our families need.”

- Pastor Michael Harrison, OOC Board Chair, Union Baptist Church & Ohio Baptist State Convention
