OOC denounces LaRose’s blatant efforts to cheat Ohio voters through proposed ballot amendment

November 18, 2022

COLUMBUS — “In Ohio, voters should have the final say, not crooked politicians. As Ohioans, one of our most essential freedoms is the freedom to vote. Protecting our access to the ballot is crucial to protecting this freedom.

We categorically reject Secretary LaRose’s efforts to cheat Ohio voters by proposing a harmful amendment to Ohio’s constitution that would strip us of our power at the ballot. Ohioans should have the ability to legislate and practice democracy by placing issues that matter to our communities directly on the ballot.

The majority of Ohioans want the freedom to earn a living wage, to decide whatever happens to their bodies, to feel safe at work, and to have their votes counted. LaRose and his power-hungry cronies know this – and that’s why they keep trying to ram through harmful legislation that would enshrine their minority rule and dilute our popular vote. We won’t stand for it.

Ohio Republicans are scared of our collective power, and that’s why they’re desperate to restrict our access to the ballot. Ohioans won’t be tricked into giving away our power to lobbyists and crooked politicians. They need to listen to what voters want and leave Ohio’s constitution alone.”
